An update on our Covid-19 testing service

In May 2020, CCL was approved to begin testing for Covid-19 in local Cambridgeshire Care Homes as part of the Covid-19 Volunteer Testing Network (CVTN). Our current contract with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) runs until 11 July.

Throughout this period CCL has worked tirelessly to provide the highest quality service to Cambridgeshire Care Homes with personalised drop off and pick up of sample test kits and samples, full screening of all residents and staff, and rapid turnaround times for results to ensure the disease can be detected early and therefore eliminated quicker.

However, CCL may now have to stop providing the service as we are unsure at this time whether the DHSC will continue to fund the CVTN after 11 July.  After numerous attempts to get clarification the renewal deadline has now passed. The Network therefore has to presume that the contract will not be renewed.

The future

CCL will continue to provide PCR testing for the detection of SARS-CoV-2. However, moving forward this will have to be done as a private service for employers. We hope that we might be able to organise some additional funding to enable us to continue our free testing service for local Care Homes should the DHSC contract not be renewed.
